A Clearing Season
There will be a wardrobe in worship at Hopewell this Sunday. It will be symbolically crammed with all the crud that confuses our lives. We stuff our stuff in the closet and hope that it stays hidden, and then one day we open it up and it all comes tumbling out. It is time to clear some things up in our lives; to simplify and sort through what we need to see clearly. This Lent, for the next six weeks, that will be the image we work with; a clearing season. Wishing you all a good week! Last week’s Buzz is on our website. I was unable to send it out to more than 20% of our email list. We have been having trouble with our server and hope to find a more reliable way of sending out emails soon. If you are receiving duplicates of our church-wide emails, please bear with us. The software we are presently using sometimes loses the server connection and does not tell us which emails have already gone out, so we have to restart the entire list! Thank you for your patience! “Belhar”
For these past three weeks we have been highlighting the Belhar Confession in our worship and my preaching. “The Dutch Reformed Mission Church formally adopted the Belhar Confession in 1986. It is now one of the “standards of unity” of the new Uniting Reformed Church of Southern Africa (URCSA). Belhar’s theological confrontation of the sin of racism has made possible reconciliation among Reformed churches in Southern Africa and has aided the process of reconciliation within the nation of South Africa.” Read more »

Tidbits of Mission at HRC
Matthew 5 reads:
“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
Multiple ChristCare groups and other Bible Study groups are asking a simple question, “How can we be Christ in this world through our missional life and service. Can you imagine 35 ChristCare groups doing missional service regularly? The community would not know what hit them!
“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.”
Did you know that Loving Stitches made 25 sweaters for Guidepost’s third world project. 13 prayer shawls were prayed and stitched for people in need. 153 hats, mittens and scarfs were made for the Homeless Shelter. 15 baby blankets were delivered to Care Net. 20 lap blankets were made for local nursing homes. Countless squares were made from “leftover yarn” for Warm Up America. All this by only 13 gifted knitters and those who graciously donated yarn! Read more »

Please join HRC as together we journey through Lent .
Our theme this year is “A Clearing Season”. Our focus will be to remove obstacles that keep us from God and clear space for Him, His will for us, and His grace.
Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, Feb 17th with worship at 7:30PM; Return, Repent, and Renew. Please join us for a service reflecting God’s mercy.
On Sundays we will look to clear space for God. On the first Sunday of Lent, Pastor Mark will guide us through ” Exploring the Wilderness”. Pastor Holbrook will follow each Sunday after with the themes: First Clearing, Natural Rhythms, New Growth, and Weathering Storms.
Wednesday evenings we gather for soup supper, fellowship and worship. This year worship will take on a more expressive, creative format, each week being unique. This will be an opportunity to explore worship though the arts: music, dance, visual art and drama. These services will be an example of the style of worship we are considering for once-a-month Saturday evenings. Please join us, all are welcome. Soup Supper will begin at 6:00, and worship will follow at 7:15.for approximately 30 minutes.
