Last fall we began a ministry to serve the clients of Mid-Hudson Love INC (love in the name of Christ). From the donations received at Thanksgiving, HRC has been purchasing beds for those in need. We would love to have more folks involved in the delivery of these beds – not only would you be helping to physically put them in place, but you would be making contact with people who could use a helping hand. If you can help, CONTACT Pastor Holbrook or sign up on your Connection Card.

Beds In the Name of Christ
Our Thanksgiving offering this past year went to buy beds. We never realized that you cannot recycle old mattresses. Love INC realized this and was looking for some way to provide beds for those who were moving, or did not have a bed to sleep on. We put out the call that $145 would buy a frame, box spring and mattress. We received about $5,000. Read more »

Last Wednesday at the evangelism seminar, I made a bold statement. Not necessarily bold for the church, but bold for my own life. I said that the problem with spiritual gift tests is that it gives us an excuse not to do what we are not gifted in. Evangelism is not one of my top 3 spiritual gifts. For years I have said I would leave evangelism to those who are gifted and I would teach the basics (remember, those who can’t, teach)! The true understanding of Spiritual Gifts is that those are the places where things come naturally for an individual. They are not the places we get a ”get out of jail free card.” Read more »

The number of attendees at the HRC Journey Odyssey services have increased. We are looking for people to commit to helping one Sunday a month – either the 2nd or 4th Sunday. We especially need help with our service/craft projects that are done immediately after the worship service. If you are able to commit to helping, please sign up on the Connection Card.CONTACT: Steve Dambra

The Community Maintenance Program is looking for some volunteers to prepare lunches for the workers. This is a once a year commitment. You would make simple lunches for 8-20 people who spend a Saturday working on free home improvements for people who need some extra help and compassion. Sign up on your Connection Card, or CONTACT Cathy Holbrook for details

As HRC explores conversion stories of the Bible and delves into the theological and practical aspects of evangelism, I thought I would take this opportunity to share my conversion story . . .
I always tell folks I was not “Born Again” but “Born Into” (I know the theological issues here!). What I mean is that I have never NOT known the grace of Jesus Christ. Like Paul, I was born into the church family, raised in a wonderful Christian family, and educated well from before I could read in the ways of Jesus Christ. As a child of the church, I was surrounded by people who took seriously their Baptismal promises to help me in my journey to become a faithful (and radical-my addition) follower of Jesus Christ. To this day, there is a group of women that pray for me regularly and one phone call would bring in an overwhelming army carrying out their Baptismal promise! Read more »

The Fishkill Food Pantry has requested a need for the following items: Broth, jelly, rice, canned meats (tuna, chicken & spam), can and box potatoes, canned meals (spaghettiO’s, raviolis) and paper bags. They have put a temporary hold on peanut butter and Progresso soup. All donations can be placed in the stairwell to the left of the church’s main entrance. Thank you all for your help. The Fishkill Food Pantry is very appreciative of our consistent donations. CONTACT Lee Ann O’Connor with any questions.
