Loving Stitches

The October meeting will be held on Monday, October 12, 2009, at 10:00 A.M. in the HRC Youth House. New participants are always welcome and we will gladly teach you to knit and/or crochet. This past Wednesday we delivered 80 items to Dutchess Outreach. The combinations of scarves, hats and mittens represented everyone’s efforts over the past summer and will go to the children of needy families throughout the county.CONTACT: Barby Richardson

Common Ground:  From the Inside Out

Many have asked about Common Ground.  They wonder about its purpose, its mission and its direction.  I know there are some out there that do not value it or its ministry.  Although this is a group that is following the Spirit into some new places and functions a bit different than what the established church is used to, I found the following e-mail (I was “CC”‘d) – a wonderful glimpse into Common Ground from the eyes of a Vassar student who is on the “inside” looking out. Donations Needed

Mills and Tracy Shenkman will be leaving on a mission trip September 26th to October 4th to the mission site HRC visits every summer in the Dominican Republic. The children at the Mata Gorda School, ages 3 to 8, are in need of the following school supplies: coloring books, colored foam paper, construction paper, glue sticks, pencils/crayons, non-spiral notebooks, scissors, Dora the Explorer DVD’s (in Spanish), vitamins, tooth-brushes and hand sanitizer. These children share everything, as there is never enough supplies for all. If you are able, please consider a donation of some of these items and place them in the donation box that will be in fellowship hall TODAY through September 24th.

J-Life Update

J-Life USA has moved from Hyde Park to Children’s Bible Fellowship in Carmel, NY – just 20 minutes from HRC!!! Thank you to all who helped move Jeff and Katie Sanchez on Saturday, August 29. Please greet Harold and Anne Chavarro this Sunday morning who are joining the J-Life USA staff. Anne will cook for CBF and J-Life starting with the HRC Family Retreat – Sept. 11-13 – AND she needs volunteers to help.

Cooks Needed for J-Life USA

J-Life pays for the food but we need volunteers who will cook one dinner each week starting Sept. 15. Now that J-Life is only 20 minutes from HRC, volunteers can cook at home or at J-Life. If you want to know what this involves, call Jan Bushey (221-6123). Thank you for helping J-Life USA train leaders who will impact teenagers! CONTACT: Kevin Phillips

Loving Stitches

Our first meeting after the long summer break will be on Monday, September 14, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. in the Youth House. At that meeting there will be lessons on how to knit mittens. Please bring your own #5 and #7 knitting needles. Everything else will be provided. So come and join us and learn how to knit mittens for your family as well as for the Loving Stitches mission projects. We are desperately in need of dark colored yarn for making hats, scarfs and mittens for the Homeless Shelter. Skeins of yarn or money to buy yarn would be greatly appreciated. If you donate by check, you can make it payable to HRC adding the notation “For Loving Stitches” in the Memo section. Help Needed

The House of Faith shelter for victims of domestic violence is looking for gently used strollers, highchairs and cribs. The residents use the House’s items while living there, but need to acquire their own when the time comes for them to move out of the shelter and live independently. There is also a need for volunteers Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 6-7 pm to help with babysitting while the moms attend their weekly group counseling session. If you can help with either of these needs, please CONTACT: Nancy Herrmann
