Community Maintenance Program
The Community Maintenance Program (CMP) of the Hopewell Reformed Church (HRC) performs home repair and maintenance for residents of southern Dutchess County and neighboring areas that are unable to pay for this work themselves. The program serves low income, disabled, and elderly residents in the community. All labor and materials are free. We do not ask or expect anything in return from the applicant families. The work is performed by volunteers, mostly from HRC. But our volunteers also come from other communities of faith and groups in the community not associated with HRC.
CMP has been operating since 2003 as a ministry of HRC. Between 2003 and the end of 2008, we performed repairs of varying degrees on the homes of 84 different applicant families in southern Dutchess and surrounding areas. These repairs have ranged from simple painting or window replacement to the construction of handicapped ramps, chair lifts, bathroom renovations for handicapped access and repairs for flood damage. We have widened interior doors so that handicapped residents can get out of the single room in their house where they have been trapped because of the width of their chair. A single day with a handful of volunteers can completely change the oulook of a widow who has not had someone work on their home since her husband passed. Some of our families have been living with no hot water or without working plumbing or appliances and, in a few cases, without floors in mobile homes.
CMP is a mission of “loving your neighbor as yourself” that can signifcantly improve the quality of life for our applicant families. If you would like more information about applying for CMP assistance, volunteering your time or donating to CMP, please contact either Kevin Warren at 845-223-6376 or visit the CMP website.
